This Riesling from Van Volxem is named after the iron-rich red slate that characterizes the prime locations in Wiltingen's Grosse Lagen region. This white wine is a perfect blend of ripe fruit, uplifting minerality, and bright acidity.

The world's best slate vineyards

Wines have been produced along the Saar River for centuries. The foundation stone of the current Van Volxem winery was laid in the 3rd century. It only received its original name when it was separated from the church and taken over by the Brussels brewer Gustav van Volxem. He immediately saw the potential of the vineyards on the steep slopes of the Saar, which are among the finest slate vineyards in the world. After four generations of the winery in the Van Volxem family, Roman Niewodniczanski took over Van Volxem in 2000. He continues the history of the traditional estate together with Dominik Völk. The goal is to make Van Volxem a leading international winery. This finely dry Riesling was vinified from golden-yellow, healthy berries grown in the unique slate landscape with red and gray Devonian slate soils weathered by weathering. The grapes come from the iron-rich red slate soils of the Wiltingen GG sites Gottesfuß, Kupp, and Klosterberg. All are harvested by hand. After a rigorous selection process, the grapes are placed in stainless steel tanks for maceration and fermentation. This entire process takes approximately 6 to 7 months.

The Rotschiefer Riesling Kabinett focuses on both lush, ripe fruit and a delicate sweetness. Aromas of citrus, peach, pineapple, and passion fruit, along with a delicate spice and mineral core, make for an invigorating drinking experience. It's a fresh wine with the sweet-tart notes of ripe fruits like grapefruit. Spicy notes also emerge, with a long, concentrated finish. Delicious as an aperitif, it also pairs beautifully with fish dishes, light meat dishes, and poultry.
