Bodegas Valdemar is a family-owned winery whose origins date back to 1889. The current owner, Jesus Martinez Bujanda, who runs the winery with his children, Ana and Carlos, began construction of the current cellars in 1982. Their modern facilities and innovative winemaking methods have been key features of the winery from the very beginning and enable the production of noble, distinctive wines of the highest caliber. Bodegas Valdemar wines are made exclusively from grapes grown on their own vineyards and are characterized by the velvety aromas typical of the Rioja region.
The grapes come from the Alto de Cantabria vineyard, situated at a certain altitude. Here, the very best Virua grapes are hand-picked and carefully fermented in new French oak barrels. Finally, this top-quality wine is aged for another three to four months in oak barrels. Here, this white Rioja develops into a strong, powerful white wine. White Riojas are not often seen, and certainly not aged in French oak barrels. This Conde de Valdemar Rioja Blanco Barricas is a wine to remember.
The nose has a beautiful bouquet of impressions, including apple and pear, complemented by mint, vanilla, wood, and a hint of banana. The aroma is truly impressive and refined, and this style continues on the palate. It's soft and round with plenty of power, rich nuances of exotic fruit, apple, and melon, and of course, some vanilla and a touch of toast.
