Besides being a successful director, Francis Ford Coppola is also a highly acclaimed winemaker. He's been demonstrating this for years with a constant stream of beautiful new wines from Californian vineyards. With Coppola Archimedes Cabernet Sauvignon, he pays tribute not only to the greatest mathematician of antiquity, but also to his own great-grandfather, a great admirer of Archimedes.
A special red wine from Francis Ford Coppola
This Coppola red wine is named after perhaps the greatest mathematician of all time: Archimedes. This great man was born over 2,300 years ago in Syracuse, then ruled by the Greeks, but his discoveries are still very much alive today. Who isn't familiar with the expression: Eureka! Francis Ford Coppola's great-grandfather, Auguste Coppola, was a great admirer of this talented Greek. So much so that he named his eldest son after him. Archimedes is also known for its many legends and myths. One of these stories is depicted on the label of Coppola Archimedes Cabernet Sauvignon. The myth goes that Archimedes, using mirrors and the sun, was able to destroy an entire Roman fleet by burning it out. Whether this actually happened remains disputed, but Coppola keeps the legend alive with this label. The Archimedes Vineyard in California
This Coppola red wine is made entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, sourced from select vineyards located in Alexander Valley, part of Sonoma County. The vineyards are located about an hour and a half north of San Francisco, making them exceptionally far north. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from three different vineyards. The majority, 57%, comes from the unique Archimedes Vineyard. A quarter comes from the exceptional Stuhlmuller Ranch. The final harvest comes from the Blue Oak Vineyard. After harvest and blending, the pure juice is generously aged in oak. The wine is aged for a full 20 months in French oak barrels. Half of these barrels are new, allowing the wood to release a tremendous amount of flavor. What does Coppola Archimedes Cabernet Sauvignon taste like?
But what does this successful red wine from Coppola taste like? Brace yourself for intense aromas and flavors. The nose is generous and exuberant. Plenty of fruit, such as dark raspberries, blackberries, cassis, and other dark fruits. Swirl Coppola Archimedes Cabernet Sauvignon in your glass, and the complex notes of clove, gingerbread, and toasted oak seem to develop. Typical of what you'd expect from a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is also a feast. Think plump plums, dark berries, and juicy blackberries. But also hints of star anise and sweet spices are clearly discernible. Perfect for the seasoned Cabernet Sauvignon drinker.Product details
