Vintage Report

The 2018 vintage in South Africa received 92 points, indicating an excellent year. The wines from this vintage are relatively early maturing and exceptionally approachable.

The old vines on which the Pinotage ripens are located on a vineyard near Stellenbosch. The vineyard boasts deep red, slate-rich soils, making it ideal for producing premium red wines. This results, among other things, in the beautifully vibrant Pinotage wine.

The Rockpool wines of Lomond

The young Lomond winery is launching this Rockpool series of wines. An innovative range where no two bottles are alike. The focus is on experimentation and new winemaking techniques. This approach results in a new creation every time. Lomond is located in the small town of Gansbaai in the Western Cape of South Africa. The winery has received numerous awards for its innovative approach. The wines are known for their complexity and character, always reflecting the beautiful terroir. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen evenly. The Pinotage grapes come from a beautiful vineyard in Stellenbosch. This is where winemaker Hannes Mayers has been harvesting the finest grapes in recent years. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and refrigerated overnight to preserve their freshness. After harvesting, the grapes are taken almost immediately to the winery, where they undergo a rigorous selection process. This ensures that only the finest grapes are selected for the gentle pressing. Traditional vinification then follows.

A concentrated Pinotage from Rockpool

The result is a vibrant red wine that glows rhubarb in the glass. The lively aromas of sweet cherry and strawberry jam greet you. The palate is equally vibrant, with plenty of fruit like cherries and plums. This is complemented by light notes of cinnamon, creating a beautiful balance. A concentrated wine with plenty of structure and a juicy finish.
