The terroir of Quinta dos Murcas

In the heart of the Douro region, we find Quinta dos Murcas. A historic site where the first vineyard was planted in 1947, Quinta dos Murcas is known for its mountains, abundant sunshine, and slate soils. After the great success of the Esporao winery, the winery was looking to expand. They soon found Quinta dos Murcas. Here, they found the perfect terroir for producing elegant wines. The wide variety of soils allows for the production of both white and red wines. The grapes for this blended wine come from the estate's oldest vineyards. At an altitude of 150 to 280 meters, the grapes enjoy a perfect climate, resulting in wines of great elegance. At optimal ripeness, the grapes are harvested by hand and taken directly to the winery. A rigorous selection follows, after which the grapes are destemmed and crushed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature. Finally, the Reserva wine is aged for a further 12 months in French oak barrels.

The Quinta dos Murcas Reserva emerges with a deep red color. A complex aroma bursts forth from the glass. Black fruit, balsamic vinegar, and hints of spice complement each other. The palate is robust and concentrated. Ripe tannins on the palate with balanced acidity. This red wine has a long and lingering finish with distinct fruity notes.
