Vintage Report
The 2022 vintage in South Australia is rated with an outstanding score of 96. The wines are described as still youthful and powerful with significant aging potential.
This wine is named after Andrew's son, Angus. He's relaxed and easygoing, and he loves a warm fire and a generous glass of Merlot. And that's exactly what this glass reflects: warmth, spice, and just the right amount of fruit.
Tasty wines from McPherson
When you think of McPherson, you immediately think of fruit-driven and flavorful wines. The winery was founded in 1968, and it was Andrew McPherson who planted the first vineyard. The winery now owns approximately 225 hectares of high-quality vineyards. The goal is always to produce high-quality wines with meticulous care for the vineyards. Jo Nash is the resident winemaker and is responsible for the elegant, balanced, and modern Australian wines that McPherson offers in its range. The grapes are planted in vineyards in Central Victoria and the Murray Darling. Grapes are also purchased to achieve perfection. Today, the winery is still family-owned. The wines are all named after family members, with each wine reflecting the family member. To preserve the character of the Merlot grape, the grapes are harvested and crushed during the cool of the night. In the cellar, modern winemaking techniques, so characteristic of this family, are used. Fermentation takes place in open fermenters, resulting in a richer color and a smoother flavor. Finally, the wine is aged for approximately six months in oak barrels, giving it a noticeable, but not overwhelming, oak influence. What does the McPherson Merlot taste like?
The result is a beautiful ruby-red Merlot with aromas of blackberry and chocolate on the nose. Wonderfully warm and sultry. The palate clearly reveals plums and blackberries, complemented by hints of spice. A typical McPherson medium-bodied wine, it pairs wonderfully with meat dishes or soft cheeses.Product details
