The history of Louis M. Martini goes back a long way, as his love for California wines actually began at the age of 12. He left Italy to live with his father in San Francisco. After a few years, he sent his son back to Italy to learn and study winemaking. Louis had a remarkable talent for vinifying the finest wines. He returned in 1922 to California to make the finest wines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon. He had a particular fondness for Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1933, he built a winery in St. Helena, north of Napa. The unparalleled beauty of his vineyards has never been lost.

The current winemaker is Michael Eddy

Today, the wines are made by the first non-Martini family winemaker, Michael Eddy. He spent a decade under Mike Martini's tutelage, and he knows better than anyone how beautiful the vineyards are. This Cabernet Sauvignon is grown in Sonoma County. The grapes come from two vineyards: Frei Ranch in Dry Creek Valley and BarrelliCreek Vineyard in Alexander Valley. Besides the main grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, a small amount of Merlot and Petit Syrah is also added to this red wine. After being hand-harvested, this top-quality wine is aged for an impressive 16 months in oak barrels. What a powerhouse this is!

Full and very powerful this Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon

Pouring this red wine reveals a dark red color, perhaps even a deep purple, we wonder. This promises something, and indeed, the aroma is truly exceptional. Nosing the glass, we detect hints of blackberries, blueberries, and red plums, along with cocoa, tobacco, vanilla, and cedar. The palate is truly enchanting, transporting us to various spices and abundant black fruit. Fine, soft tannins on the palate offer just the right amount of power. The finish is a wine that lingers for a long time, with plenty of depth and richness right up to the last sip.
