Vintage Report
De jaargang 2021 in Pauillac is beoordeeld met 89 punten door Robert Parker (bovengemiddeld tot uitstekend). Het is een jaar met wijnen die onregelmatig kunnen zijn, zelfs onder de beste wijnhuizen.
A very famous wine from a winery known to every wine lover: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). They rose to fame with Château Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild. These are still considered the best wines of France. So, we're dealing with a winery that truly knows its trade, and that's putting it mildly. Besides their top vineyards, Domaines Barons de Rothschild also has several wineries elsewhere in France. This Legende Pauillac is a perfect example.
Wood aging for the Legende Pauillac
Paulliac, a key appellation in the Médoc, benefits from exceptional terroir characterized by gravelly hilltops on clay subsoils that provide natural drainage and encourage the vines to develop deep roots: perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. Légende Pauillac is made from grapes grown in the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) vineyards, and again, the wines are crafted with the same attention to detail as the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) estate's fine wines. What does the red Legende Pauillac taste like?
For this red wine, the winemakers at Lafite Rothschild primarily use Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. A small portion is also added to Merlot bunches. These bunches both come from old vines in Pauillac, where they enjoy a perfect climate with abundant sunshine, a cool breeze from the Gironde Estuary, and, of course, excellent soil structure. All bunches for this Legende Pauillac are harvested by hand and subject to strict quality control; only the finest bunches are used in the red wine. Before this, the wine is partially aged in new oak barrels. The aging period lasts approximately nine months, giving it considerable depth without losing its softness. This gives it a full and complex aroma, with numerous nuances of black fruit, spices, cedar, earthy notes, and a hint of laurel. The palate is balanced and ripe with a perfectly thick structure, abundant notes of black fruit, oak, and vanilla.Product details
