Coto Mayor Rioja Blanco

Joining forces was the idea when the Coto Mayor winery was founded in 1970. It was a group of winegrowers who initially sold their harvest to large bodegas but ultimately wanted to make their own wine. Ultimately, the harvest was phenomenal. This superb quality gave rise to the magnificent Rioja winery. Today, many winegrowers have joined Coto Mayor, and the total vineyard comprises over 110 hectares. Over the years, significant investments have been made, focusing on improving the vineyards, modern winemaking techniques, and new oak barrels. This allows this white Rioja from Coto Mayor to truly shine, and the taste is clearly evident.

Bodega Coto Mayor is located in Oyón (Alava) in the Rioja Alta region. But for the white grapes for this white wine, we travel to the Rioja Alavesa region, where the vineyards are filled with the Viura grape. The Viura grape grows best in cool conditions. Because of this, the vineyards are situated a little higher than usual, receiving more cooling from the wind and the sharp drop in nighttime temperatures. This allows the grapes to ripen evenly and retain their freshness well into the bottle.

The aroma and taste of the white Coto Mayor wine

You don't see them often in white Rioja wines, but they are delicious. The fun begins the moment you open this white wine. A vibrant aroma is released upon opening the bottle, including notes of apple, melon, a touch of citrus, and orange blossom. Upon pouring, a bright yellow color with a subtle green reflection reveals itself. It smells of fresh fruit like apple, lime, and grapefruit. The palate is a feast for the eyes, with plenty of freshness and very pleasant acidity, along with just the right amount of citrus and white fruit.
