Vintage Report

In 2021, the Languedoc-Roussillon region achieved an excellent score of 92 points on the vintage charts. The wines from this year are described as early-maturing and are currently very approachable to drink.

We know the French-Catalan Clar family, of course, for their beautiful white and rosé wines from the Côtes des Catalanes region in the south of France. But they also produce exquisite red wines made from local grape varieties. However, because there was no successor in the family, the Clar family sought a buyer for the beautiful Château Lauriga and its vineyards. An opportunity Jean-Claude Mas didn't miss, as he knew the beauty of the wines and their vineyards. After acquiring the family, he invested heavily in modern winemaking techniques while preserving the old French traditions. The wines truly soared in terms of finesse and refinement. Today, the wines are incredibly popular and have won numerous wine awards.

The harvest for the Cuvée Bastien Reserve

This Cuvée Bastien Reserve is Château Lauriga's top red wine. It's a unique blend of Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah grapes grown on very old vines. The harvest is influenced by the old vines, but also by the rich soil structure. The vines receive everything they need: abundant richness and finesse. The harvest is entirely hand-picked to select only the finest bunches. Each grape variety is harvested and fermented separately, after which the winemaker creates the blend for this Cuvée Bastien Reserve. The entire wine is aged for six to eight months in oak barrels, developing considerable power and richness.

Full and very powerful this Chateau Lauriga Cuvee Bastien

It's a very full-bodied wine, and that's immediately apparent upon opening the bottle. We immediately smell abundant impressions of red fruit, jam, and notes of licorice and sweet spices. In the glass, it erupts garnet red with a purple sheen. As we hold the glass, our senses are captivated by notes of black fruit, cassis, vanilla, oak, a touch of spice, and a hint of licorice. A round and well-balanced palate, refined tannins, and hints of blackberry, cherry, vanilla, jam, and plum complete the experience.
