Castello di Neive Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy
The Castello di Neive Langhe DOC Nebbiolo is the accessible interpretation of Nebbiolo within the domain and showcases the character of the Langhe in a slightly more direct style than Barbaresco. What is the difference between Langhe Nebbiolo and Barbaresco? Langhe DOC Nebbiolo has less strict aging requirements, making the wine drinkable sooner, while retaining the typical structure and aromatic characteristics of Nebbiolo.
This wine is made entirely from Nebbiolo and comes from vineyards in the Langhe, around Neive.
Origin: Langhe, Piedmont
The vineyards are located in the hilly landscape of the Langhe, where Nebbiolo can ripen optimally.
-
Langhe DOC: broader appellation within Piedmont.
-
Hilly location: supports slow and even ripening.
-
Calcareous marl soils: provide structure and aromatic precision.
This combination yields Nebbiolo with fresh acidity and clear tannins, but in a slightly more accessible style.
Grape and vinification
Nebbiolo – Langhe, Piedmont
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening grape with high acidity and pronounced tannins. Within Langhe DOC, this results in a wine with recognizable structure, but generally less austere than Barbaresco.
Fermentation takes place with controlled extraction to ensure a balance between fruit and structure. Subsequently, the wine ages in wood for a shorter period than Barbaresco, preserving its fresh fruit character.
Character and drinking window
In the glass, this Langhe Nebbiolo displays a clear ruby red color. Typical aromas include red fruit, floral notes, and slight spiciness. The tannin structure is present but more accessible, making the wine ready to drink sooner than a Barbaresco.
Serve around 16–18 °C to experience fruit, freshness, and structure in optimal balance.
