Castello di Neive Barbaresco Riserva Albesani Vigna Santo Stefano 3-bottle set 2016, 2017, 2018
This wooden case from Castello di Neive contains three bottles of Barbaresco Riserva Albesani Vigna Santo Stefano, each from a different vintage: 2016, 2017, and 2018. What makes such a vertical set special? You taste the same plot and the same vinification, but you immediately see how different vintages influence the character of Nebbiolo. This is a unique opportunity to experience the evolution of Albesani Vigna Santo Stefano side by side.
All three wines are made entirely from Nebbiolo and meet the Riserva requirements of Barbaresco DOCG, with a minimum of 50 months of aging, of which at least 9 months are in wood.
Origin: Albesani – Vigna Santo Stefano, Neive
The Santo Stefano vineyard is located within the MGA Albesani in the municipality of Neive, one of Barbaresco's most respected crus.
-
Albesani MGA, Neive: historically recognized origin within Barbaresco DOCG.
-
Vigna Santo Stefano: plot with a reputation for structure and refinement.
-
Southwest exposure: optimal phenolic ripening of Nebbiolo.
-
Calcareous marl soils: provide tension, depth, and aromatic precision.
This combination yields Nebbiolo with powerful yet elegant tannins.
The three vintages side by side
Nebbiolo – Albesani Vigna Santo Stefano, Neive
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening grape with high acidity and a pronounced tannin structure. The differences between the years show how terroir and climate together determine the final result.
-
2016: considered a classic and great year in Barbaresco. Balanced weather conditions ensured perfect ripeness, concentration, and long aging potential.
-
2017: a warmer, drier year with concentrated fruit and ripe, powerful tannins. The wines show more immediate intensity.
-
2018: a year with more freshness and elegance, where balance and aromatic finesse are central.
Together, these three bottles provide a complete picture of the Albesani cru over consecutive years.
Character and aging potential
In the glass, the wines show garnet-red hues that further develop with aging. Typical aromas include red fruit, roses, spices, and earthy nuances. Thanks to the long aging and natural structure of Nebbiolo, all three vintages have significant aging potential, each developing further in its own way.
Serve around 16–18 °C to allow the structure and aromatic depth to fully express themselves.
