Caliterra Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon

Another beautiful glass of red wine from the lovely Caliterra. Although this winery is relatively young, it already has a remarkable track record. Established in 1989 in the Colchagua Valley, a wine region south of the capital Santiago, it was founded by Eduardo Chadwick, known for the family behind Errazuriz. In 1996, a partnership was formed with Robert G. Mondavi, a renowned American winemaker. With the expertise of these two giant wineries, Caliterra became a significant winery in Chile. This partnership ended in 2004, and Caliterra focused on truly high-quality wines. Since then, they have only produced wines from the Reserva line and above, demonstrating Caliterra's commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

The vineyards for the Cabernet Sauvignon

Over the years, Caliterra has amassed many hectares of vineyards, the vast majority of which are located in the Colchagua Valley. Only grapes are grown on-site. This allows for better control, ensuring that only the best grapes are selected for Caliterra wines. The grapes for Caliterra Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon also come from the Colchagua Valley and grow on granite and clay soils. This allows the vines' roots to develop freely in the soil and absorb plenty of nutrients. After vinification, 30% of the juice undergoes light aging in French oak barrels.

The winemaker adds a touch of Carignan and Petit Verdot to the Caliterra Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon to make it more distinctive within the Chilean wine landscape. This gives the wine a broad and fragrant character. On the nose, you'll discover intense notes of raspberry and blueberry, but don't forget the floral notes. Skillful noses will detect a hint of tobacco in the Caliterra Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon. Complex and rich, you'll taste plenty of fresh red fruit, cherries, and cassis. A spicy finish, for which Cabernet Sauvignon is so well known.
