Villa di Zano Chianti Classico Riserva 2020
Villa di Zano Chianti Classico Riserva 2020 comes from the historical heart of Greve in Chianti and presents Sangiovese in a distinctly more serious, riper style than the estate's regular Chianti Classico. The wine is made entirely from Sangiovese and undergoes 24 months of aging in Slovenian and French oak after fermentation, which gives it extra depth, structure, and spice. This results in a Chianti Classico Riserva with more power and length, without losing its refined Tuscan character.
Vineyards and Region
The origin of this Riserva lies in the heart of the classic Chianti Classico area.
- Location / Origin: Villa di Zano is located in Greve in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, approximately 30 km south of Florence. This places this wine among the most famous and historically significant zones of the appellation.
- Vineyard: The grapes for this Riserva come from the best vineyards in the Chianti region. This gives the wine a clear selection profile within the estate.
Vinification and Aging
The cellar approach here is classic and focused on structure, harmony, and aging potential.
- Fermentation: After fermentation, the wine remains in stainless steel tanks. This preserves the fruit expression before the wine gains further complexity.
- Aging / Oak Maturation: Subsequently, the wine ages for 24 months in Slovenian and French oak barrels. This long maturation gives it more depth, spiciness, roundness, and a firmer tannin structure.
Grape Composition
Here, it's all about one grape that shows more power and depth in its Riserva form.
- Sangiovese – Chianti Classico: Sangiovese forms the complete base and gives the wine its ripe fruit tone, spiciness, and refined dry tannins.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
Intense ruby red in the glass, with a nose of ripe red fruit and spices. On the palate, this Riserva is full, powerful, and elegant, with earthy notes and a distinct hint of black pepper that gives it more depth. The finish remains dry, refined, and beautifully structured.
- Dishes: Grilled meat dishes and spicy cheeses pair very naturally with this wine, as it has enough strength and spiciness to beautifully complement such flavors.
More information about A&G Folonari
The Folonari family has been active in the Italian wine world since 1825, making them one of Tuscany's historical names. In 1967, the family acquired the di Zano estate in Greve in Chianti, after previously playing a significant role in Ruffino and later in the early development of Super Tuscans through Cabreo. Their vision remains strongly origin-focused: not the family name, but the unique character of the vineyard must remain recognizable in the wine.
