Vintage Report

2022 was an excellent vintage for Tuscany, rated 93 points by Robert Parker. Conditions were very favorable, resulting in wines with good structure and aging potential.
A full-bodied Italian—that's how we can best describe this Brolio Chianti Riserva Barone Ricasoli! This red wine is the flagship of this winery's Chiantis. For this wine, they select the finest Chianti Classico grapes from their own vineyards surrounding the beautiful old family castle.

Absolute quality from Barone Ricasoli

The Ricasoli family made a significant contribution to Italian history, particularly through their development of viticulture in the Chianti region. It's no wonder they're considered the oldest winemaking family in the world. The current owner, Francesco Ricasoli, Bettino's great-grandson and 32nd Baron, has been at the helm since 1993. He immediately adopted a firm approach, with a single goal in mind: absolute quality. He therefore enlisted the expertise and experience of renowned oenologist Carlo Ferrini. The vineyards were replanted, resulting in higher quality. The Riserva is the middle of the three quality levels defined by the Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico. Before it can be sold, the Riserva must age for at least 24 months, including at least three months in the bottle.

Completely hand-harvested for this Brolio Chianti

The Brolio Riserva Chianti Classico grapes grow at an altitude of 260 to 500 meters. Characteristic are the various soil types: sandstone, slate, marine sediments, and chalk marl. These rock compositions give the wine its harmonious character. The grape varieties are 80 percent Sangiovese, 15 percent Merlot, and 5 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The Brolio Riserva Chianti Classico has a ruby red color. A beautiful aroma of coffee grounds, mocha, and spices, along with abundant black fruit. Thanks to the long oak aging, this red Brolio Chianti Riserva is truly perfect, as the grapes thrive on rest. Incidentally, the entire harvest was hand-harvested in the early morning dew to enhance the grapes' depth. And it certainly succeeded, as the result is a full, complex, ripe flavor. A beautiful bouquet with notes of tobacco, blackcurrant, vanilla, and spices such as pepper, bay leaf, and cloves. This Brolio Chianti Riserva Barone Ricasoli is a perfect wine, so enjoy it!
