Castello di Neive Barbaresco DOCG, Piedmont, Italy
The Castello di Neive Barbaresco DOCG is the classic expression of Nebbiolo from Neive, one of the three official villages within the Barbaresco appellation in the Langhe. What makes Barbaresco different from Barolo? Barbaresco legally matures for a minimum of 26 months, of which at least 9 months are in wood, and is known for a slightly more approachable style with refined tannins, while maintaining structure and aging potential. This wine reflects the character of the vineyards around Neive with a clear balance between power and elegance.
The wine is made entirely from Nebbiolo and complies with the regulations of the Barbaresco DOCG.
Origin: Neive, Langhe
The Castello di Neive vineyards are located in the municipality of Neive, in the heart of the Langhe.
-
Neive, Barbaresco DOCG: core area within the appellation.
-
Calcareous marl soils: provide structure and aromatic finesse.
-
Hilly location: promotes optimal ripening of Nebbiolo.
These conditions yield Nebbiolo with clear tannins, fresh acidity, and aromatic depth.
Grape and vinification
Nebbiolo – Neive, Langhe
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening grape from Piedmont with high acidity and a pronounced tannin structure. This produces wines with aging potential and complex aromatic development.
Fermentation takes place with controlled extraction to balance color and structure. Subsequently, the wine matures in wood according to the legal requirements of Barbaresco DOCG, which refines the tannins and adds extra complexity to the wine.
Character and aging potential
In the glass, this Barbaresco shows a garnet red color that evolves into brick-like hues with aging. Typical aromas include red fruit, roses, spices, and earthy notes. The combination of acidity and tannin provides a clear structure and an aging potential of several years, during which the wine further develops in complexity.
Serve around 16–18 °C to best bring out the balance and aromatic precision.
