Not just any glass of sherry, but one of the finest: this Tio Diego Amontillado Dry Sherry from the Valdespino winery. The Valdespino winery is one of the oldest sherry producers in Spain, ensuring unparalleled quality. Before 1999, the Valdespino family had been involved in winemaking for over seven hundred years. In 1999, they sold their beautiful estates to Grupo Estévez. This is another family winery, earning its fame with Bodegas Hijos de Rainera Pérez Marín in Sanlúcar. Valdespino has continued to follow the family's inspiration and is the only winery still producing a Jerez Single Vineyard Sherry. We can safely call this sherry unique, and we drink it like a luxury wine. Because it absolutely is!

The unique Macharnudo Alto vineyard

The beautiful Macharnudo Alto vineyard covers only 56 hectares and is planted with very old vines filled with Palomino Fino. This is one of Valdespino's top sherries and is a Single Vineyard Sherry. The soil, called "albariza," is very chalky, which contributes to the excellent harvest. All bunches grow in a perfect climate and are harvested by hand at ideal ripeness. After harvesting, this Tio Diego Amontillado Dry Sherry is aged for an impressive fourteen years in oak barrels. This makes it a unique piece of craftsmanship, with a richness of dried hazelnut and an elegant note of toffee caramel.

What does a Tio Diego Amontillado Valdespino taste like?

It's a joy to drink, because let's be honest, this is the best you can get. Upon pouring, we see a beautiful amber color that sparkles with an orange glow. The oak aging has changed this sherry's color and given it a wealth of powerful flavors. The aroma translates into notes of dried hazelnut, caramel, dried yellow fruit, and a hint of vanilla. The palate is powerful and has a lingering finish with notes of hazelnut, vanilla, tutti frutti, and, of course, a swirl of toffee and caramel.
