In 1875, the family began producing their beloved sherries in the Jerez wine region. At that time, the family had been active in the wine world for a long time and had a proven track record. By 1999, that number had already reached 700 years. Nevertheless, the family sold the Valdespino sherry house to another well-known wine family. The winery now belongs to the Grupo Estévez, a well-known name when it comes to wines of the highest quality. Besides the fine range of sherries, they also produce a sweet dessert wine from the Moscatel grape. It's a kind of cross between a dessert wine and a sherry, making this Valdespino Moscatel Promesa Jerez unique.
The harvest of the Moscatel Promesa
Promesa sherry is made from the Moscatel de Alejandria grape grown in Chipiona, the region famous for its Moscatel. Chipiona is located at the western tip of the Jerez region, right on the Atlantic Ocean. Once the ripe grapes are harvested, they are dried for ten days. This is done by the sun; the warm UV rays quickly cause the bunches to wilt, causing them to lose some of their juice. The resulting juice is therefore of unique quality. The entire Moscatel Promesa Jerez is aged for at least four years in oak barrels in the Valdespino cellars. After this time, we can enjoy a glass of this top-quality wine!
Full and very powerful this Valdespino Moscatel Promesa
In the glass, it displays a beautiful amber hue with an orange sheen. It truly oozes fragrance, offering hints of honeysuckle, orange peel, herbs, and chocolate. At first, the palate is pampered by sweet flavors of orange, apricot, vanilla, and a touch of spice. The full, creamy texture of this Moscatel Promesa leaves a wonderfully pleasant feeling. A lingering finish on the tongue and in the aftertaste is best described as full-bodied sweetness with light, refreshing notes of citrus and orange.
