Our Review

A rosé that clearly performs well above its price range. I recently drank this on a terrace, immediately followed by a glass of AIX, and this Marquis de Monteclain surprisingly really was my preference. It has exactly that refreshing, light style you're looking for on a sunny day, but at half the price of the well-known names.

For this beautiful rosé from Monteclain, we travel to the south of France, specifically to Pays d'Oc. There, the magnificent vineyards are spread across several plots for this rosé. Every year, Monteclain's winemaker selects the best vineyards to vinify this so-called "cuvée Selectionnes." The winery has been a staple in our selection for years, thanks largely to its pure and rich quality.

The location of the Grenache vineyard

This rosé is made from Grenache grapes grown on old vines. These vines are located in the beautiful Pays d'Oc region, enjoying abundant sunshine. The Grenache grapes ripen steadily, and the fresh breeze helps cool the bunches. The climate is perfect, and the nutrient-rich soil structure gives the bunches the strength they need. Once the harvest is ripe, it is brought in overnight and thoroughly inspected upon arrival at Monteclain. Only the finest bunches are used in this rosé. The skins ferment for only a few minutes, developing the beautiful salmon-colored hue.

What does Monteclain Grenache rosé taste like?

The bottle alone looks fantastic, but it doesn't stop there. When you open the bottle and carefully pour it into the glass, you'll smell a fantastic bouquet of red fruit, grapefruit, and a hint of fresh lime. In the glass, it turns salmon pink with a reddish sheen; those who didn't know better would think of a Côtes de Provence. It flows beautifully from the glass, offering notes of strawberry, raspberry, grapefruit, and citrus fruit. On the palate, the tongue is pampered by red fruit and fresh grapefruit. As this rosé swirls around the palate, it also reveals nuances of red currants and a touch of grenadine. What a gem, and it's no wonder this rosé is a popular house wine in fine restaurants.
