The Morellino Riserva is made from 85 percent Sangiovese and 15 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvesting takes place by hand in late September for the Sangiovese and in the first half of October for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Only the finest grapes are used. Maceration on the skins for twenty days is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation and complete malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The subsequent aging takes place for fifteen months in large oak barrels of 10, 20, and 40 hectoliters.
The Morellino di Scansano Riserva appears in the glass with a deep, dark garnet color. The bouquet offers a seductive aroma of red fruit, accompanied by delicate balsamic aromas and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, this Morellino Riserva from Elisabetta Gepetti is highly concentrated with a full, round body, beautifully balanced by firm and persistent tannins. The long, lingering finish concludes with classic fruity and spicy nuances. This noble red wine from the southern Maremma region is best enjoyed as an excellent accompaniment to pasta dishes with flavorful, complex sauces, main courses featuring red meat or game, and to mature cheeses with fruity mustard.
