Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in Tuscany has been awarded an excellent score of 92 points on the Robert Parker scale. The wines from this year are characterized as still tannic and youthful, with potential for slow aging.

In 1998, Poliziano began producing Morellino di Scansano. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented on-site in stainless steel vats. It then matures for approximately eight months in barrels and foeders in the cellars of Montepulciano, resulting in a wonderfully elegant and flavorful red wine, typically Tuscan in character.

The new wine region of Poliziano

The Poliziano winery is based in Montepulciane, where this winery produces exquisite wines. Poliziano also utilizes the new Morellino di Scansano wine region, a unique area west of the Chianti region. Today, this region produces delicious, elegant wines based on the same classic Tuscan grape, Sangiovese. Poliziano owns a beautiful eighteen-hectare vineyard here, where the winery began producing Morellino di Scansano in 1998. This Sangiovese clone produces wines rich in tannins and great complexity. With this one from Poliziano, we have a modern producer of this unique wine. The grapes for the Lohsa Morellino di Scansano Poliziano come from the Lohsa vineyard. These vineyards are located near Magliano, near Grosseto, not far from the sea. Situated 100 meters above sea level, the vineyards form a kind of amphitheater oriented south and southwest. The soil consists primarily of limestone and sandstone. Thanks to the mild climate, the Italian red wine develops wonderful aromas and soft flavors. Of the seventy hectares, only eighteen are planted primarily with Sangiovese grapes and fall under the Morellino di Scansano appellation. Lohsa Morellino di Scansano Poliziano is an intense wine that offers great drinking pleasure.

On the nose, this Lohsa Morellino di Scansano Poliziano has hints of vanilla, cherry fruit, and a light pepperiness. The fruit is prominent, beautifully complex and refined. The palate is delightfully elegant and fresh, juicy and crisp, with lovely cherry fruit, fine acidity, and some tannins, with a wonderfully broad, smooth finish.
