The 2022 Italian wine harvest achieved top scores of up to 97 points, indicating an exceptionally strong year. The red wines from this vintage are currently still mostly young and tannic, which provides excellent aging potential.

For this price, it's truly a great deal of wine and a truly global discovery. The vineyards are located in the provinces of Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena, Rimini, and partially in the province of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna region). The hilly landscapes of Romagna, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, provide the Sangiovese grapes with ample sunshine, warmth, and the cool sea breeze. With its chalky and clayey soils, it has everything needed for a top-notch Sangiovese del Conte. The winemakers of Conte di Campiano dedicate considerable time to the vineyards, and this is reflected in the wine's exceptionally smooth flavor.

Late harvest for the Sangiovese del Conte

Sangiovese is a somewhat late-ripening vine, so harvesting can only begin between late September and early October. The Sangiovese grapes are harvested with great care and precision. Afterward, a second, rigorous selection process is carried out. Only the finest bunches are allowed to be bottled, according to the winemaker. The entire wine is briefly aged in the Conte di Campiano cellars before being available.

What does Conte di Campiano Sangioves taste like?

The moment you open the bottle, the fun begins: a ripe and sultry aroma greets you. Pour the warm red juice into a large glass, revealing a beautiful dark purple color—a hallmark of a top-quality Sangiovese. Swirling reveals beautiful aromas of ripe cherries, stewed blackberries, and hints of cinnamon, toffee, and vanilla. The palate is ripe and very smooth, with a strong emphasis on black fruit and light spices like cinnamon and bay leaf. This red wine's softness is paramount, making it a perfect pairing with gourmet dishes, red meat, pasta, and pizza. And last but not least, it's perfect as an evening wine, as this wine never gets old.
