Vintage Report

2023 was een uitdagend jaar voor Mendoza, gekenmerkt door vorst en hagel die de opbrengsten beïnvloedden. Desondanks werden er wijnen van goede kwaliteit geproduceerd, met een focus op concentratie en expressie.
The flagship wine of the phenomenal Argentinian winery Terrazas is undoubtedly this Terrazas de Los Andes Malbec! What a fantastic wine! We already knew that Terrazas makes fantastic wines, but where does this extensive expertise come from? This winery traces its origins back to 1959, when the renowned Champagne house Moët & Chandon acquired vineyards in Argentina. Moët & Chandon was eager to take this step, driven by French expertise as a winemaker and the potential of the Mendoza region. Now, over 50 years later, Terrazas wines are renowned worldwide, and no wonder! What beautifully pure wines! It's no wonder, then, that Terrazas de Los Andes has already received several awards.

The old Malbec vineyard of Terrazas de Los Andes

The vineyards for this exceptional wine are located at an altitude of 1,067 meters above sea level, spread across the best districts of Mendoza. This altitude ensures that the Malbec grapes receive ample sunshine, as well as the coolness of the night and the winds that blow through the Andes. Meltwater from the snow-capped peaks provides natural irrigation for the vineyards. At the perfect ripeness, which occurs in late March or early April, the grapes are harvested by hand. As you can imagine, only the finest grapes are good enough for this Los Andes Malbec. After vinification, this Terrazas de Los Andes is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, approximately one-third of which are new oak. During this period, the wine develops its suppleness and power. After bottling, the wine is allowed to age for another six months in the bottle in the magnificent Terrazas cellars.

What does the Terrazas Malbec taste like?

The winemakers' stunning result is certainly impressive! What a fantastic wine that encompasses everything a good Malbec needs. The color is deep dark red with an almost black core. The nose offers rich aromas of red and black fruit, chocolate, oak, vanilla, and a slightly toasty hue. The palate is full, ripe, and powerful. Exactly what a good Malbec wine needs. Delicious flavor nuances of ripe black fruit interspersed with hints of cocoa, vanilla, a touch of pepper, and a touch of oak. The finish is warm and full with a rich, lingering aftertaste. Want to pair this wine with a delicious dish? Think of a fine Argentinian steak!
