With an impressive 420 hectares of vineyards and nineteen unique grape varieties, Alvi's Drift is known as South Africa's largest winery. Their dedication to authenticity is evident in their exclusive use of their own grapes for their wines. The winery's history dates back to 1928, when Albertus Viljoen van der Merwe purchased a farm and built an iconic bridge, which later became known as "Alvi's Drift."

Most of their vineyards extend along the rolling banks of the Breede River. This location, combined with low-yielding vines and the farm's natural compost, creates ideal conditions for viticulture. The diversity of the terroirs, ranging from alluvial soils near the river to shale soils, provides the perfect base for both red and white wines. While Sauvignon Blanc thrives in the fertile alluvial soils, red grape varieties like Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon thrive in the shale soils. These unique terroirs, rich in fossilized anthills, enhance the intense fruity flavors of Alvi's Drift Signature Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, and Viognier. The early morning harvest, combined with cold fermentation in stainless steel vats, ensures that the wine retains its fruity essence, while only the purest grape juice is used.
