Buy or order Alvi's Drift wine
Albertus Viljoen, called Alvi by his friends, founded the Alvi winery in 1928. He owned numerous vineyards on his Alfalfa estate, situated on the Breede River. Because the vineyards straddled both sides of the Breede River, he decided to create a drift (South African for bridge). Alvi's Drift quickly became such a household name that Albertus Viljoen van de Merwe renamed his winery Alvi's Drift.
The winery is located just outside Worcester, about a two-hour drive from the bustling capital, Cape Town. Along both banks of the Breede River, you'll find an impressive 420 hectares of vineyards. Now, over 90 years later, the grandsons of Albertus Viljoen van de Merwe are in charge of the day-to-day running of Alvi's Drift winery. Alvi and Johan manage the vineyards with just as much passion as their grandfather once did.
