Vintage Report
The 2020 vintage in Rioja has been excellently rated with 93 points. The wines are currently still tannic and youthful, which indicates a slow and good maturation.
Bodega Leza García has been around for over a century and has captured our hearts. It all began with the family's grandfather, Juan Leza Arenzana, who founded the winery. The old bodega is located in the characteristic Rioja Alta, a historic district of Rioja. This is where the best Rioja wines originate, thanks in part to several factors. The soil is unique and rich in aromas. The Continental and Mediterranean climate also contributes to a top-notch harvest. Over the years, Leza García has invested heavily in modern winemaking techniques without compromising the ancient Rioja traditions. Today, the winery is renowned worldwide and has received numerous wine awards.
The old Rioja vineyard for this red Leza García Reserva
This is one of Leza García's most famous wines, known for its power. Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes are used for this red wine. The former plays a leading role, as it consists of ninety percent Tempranillo. All the grapes are grown on very old vines, and you can taste the difference. The old vines don't produce many bunches, but those that are harvested are of unique quality. These are harvested entirely by hand at ideal ripeness and transported in small crates to Leza García's wine press. This is followed by a long oak aging period of twenty-four months, allowing the wine to mature and acquire all the wonderful qualities of the wooden barrel. After oak aging, this red Rioja also undergoes a bottle aging period in Leza García's cellars. Only when the final result is truly exceptional are the bottles sold.Full and very powerful this Leza García Rioja Reserva
Yes, it's simply a quintessential Spanish Rioja with pure, clean flavors and aromas. It all begins when we remove the cork from this Leza García family's masterpiece. Then we smell some dark aromas of black fruit, interspersed with beautiful spices. Use a large glass so you can easily swirl this Reserva, as this releases all the aromas beautifully. We noted notes of black fruit, vanilla, light spices, and a touch of cedar. The palate is full and complex with great depth and finesse. Enormous, full flavors of dried black fruit, accompanied by a wealth of notes. We noted vanilla, coffee grounds, dark chocolate, cedar, and a touch of bay leaf. In short, a Rioja gem, and for this price? Unbelievable.Product details
