Vintage Report

The 2021 vintage in Chile received an excellent rating of 93 points in the Robert Parker Vintage Chart. The wines from this year are currently still youthful and tannic, indicating beautiful aging potential.
A Chilean red wine, and what a wine it is! Sublime and sensational. We expected nothing less. The driving force behind this beautiful wine is none other than the iconic Domaines Barons de Rothschild. This is perhaps the most legendary winery, originating in Pauillac, Bordeaux. The Rothschild dynasty's drive for expansion was boundless. As a result, they expanded beyond the country's borders, including into Chile. Thanks to their expertise, they significantly boosted Chilean viticulture. They are considered true pioneers in Chilean wines.

The vineyards full of Carmenere grapes

Los Vascos has been part of the renowned Rothschild family since 1988. They own vineyards in the Colchagua Valley, an iconic wine region in Chile. The vineyards are located just 40 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. This allows the Carmenere grapes to enjoy an ideal climate. During the day, they receive record hours of sunshine. At night, a pleasant sea breeze blows through the vineyards, something the grapes appreciate immensely. It's no coincidence that Los Vascos has planted several Carmenere vineyards. This grape is considered the pride of Chile. It originated in Bordeaux, but it primarily produced harsh, uninspiring wines there. However, this spicy, all-rounder turned out to thrive in Chilean vineyards.

The smell and taste of Los Vascos Carmenere Grande Reserve

A top-notch Carmenere. Few red wines can match this Los Vascos gem. Its quality is partly due to its production method. After harvest, the refined juice of the Carmenere grape is aged for 12 months in French oak, 20% of which is new oak. This imparts a tremendous amount of flavor to the red wine. As soon as you open the wine, you'll be transported to paradise. Your nose is captivated by deep notes of cherry, blackberry, pomegranate, and pepper. But swirl Los Vascos Carmenere Grande Reserve in your glass, and you'll also discover black olives, smoked chili pepper, and soft cinnamon. The palate is at least as impressive as the aroma. You'll taste fruit, but also a hint of bitter chocolate. A gentle spice on the back of the tongue completes this Los Vascos red wine.
