The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

Between the hills of Chianti, a fresh, floral white wine with a distinct Tuscan character is born. White fruit and jasmine give the wine its fragrant profile, while a pleasantly round taste provides softness. Maturation in steel keeps the fruity style at the forefront. This creates an elegant table wine that pairs exceptionally well with fish and seafood.

The interplay of hills, wind, and varied soils makes Villa Trasqua a diverse location for viticulture.

  • Location / origin: Villa Trasqua is located near Castellina in Chianti, in the province of Siena in Tuscany. Trastella is a white Toscana IGT, originating from a landscape mainly known for the red wines of Chianti Classico.
  • Soil: The grapes for Trastella grow on sandy soils with clay, silt, and galestro, a flaky marl stone characteristic of parts of Tuscany. These different components influence how the soil retains and drains water.
  • Climate & influences: The location between the Monte Ala massif and the Staggia valley provides air circulation on the estate. Wind tempers the summer heat, and differences between day and night temperatures help preserve aromas.
  • Vineyard management: Villa Trasqua divides its vineyards into separate plots based on soil and microclimate. This allows care to be tailored to the conditions of each site.

The preparation emphasizes the preservation of fruit and flowers, with time for development in the cellar.

  • Fermentation: The must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16–18 °C. Steel does not impart any woody aromas, and the controlled temperature helps to maintain the fragrant style of the wine.
  • Maturation: Trastella matures for 6 months in stainless steel tanks. This gives the young wine time to develop, while keeping the fresh, fruity taste central.

A composition focused entirely on Vermentino gives Trastella its own place within the estate's assortment.

  • 100% Vermentino – Tuscany: Vermentino brings fragrance and fresh acidity, with enough structure for a round mouthfeel. In Trastella, this comes together in a wine that is both lively and soft on the tongue.

More about Villa Trasqua

The history of Trasqua dates back to 1001, when the name was recorded in a donation by Countess Ava to the Benedictine monastery of Abbadia Isola. The Hulsbergen family purchased the estate in 2001 and continued to build on that long connection to viticulture. Together with oenologist Franco Bernabei, focus on individual plots and organic viticulture has played an increasingly important role. Amidst vineyards, olive trees, and forests, the cohesion of the estate is central, with Trastella serving as an elegant white expression of this Tuscan location.
