Peñalosa wines are made by none other than Bodega Pascual. This beautiful old winery is located in the town of Fuentelcésped, Burgos. Here lie the old vineyards where grapes have been grown since the fourteenth century. For many years, the Rueda wine region has cultivated the finest white wines. To expand this excellent range, they purchased land for red wines in the Ribera del Duero wine region. These vineyards were purchased in 1986 and complete the Peñalosa wine range. Bodega Pascual is known for seamlessly combining modern winemaking techniques with ancient traditions. This is largely due to the current winemakers, Félix and Enrique Pascual. Their insights have further improved the quality of the wines, a fact the family is proud of.

The old vineyard for this white Peñalosa

This white Peñalosa is made from two grape varieties: Verdejo and Viura. Both grape varieties come from a very old vineyard in the Rueda region. The vineyard is perfectly situated at an altitude of 680 meters, providing the Verdejo and Viura grapes with plenty of sunshine and the right amount of coolness. This coolness comes from the mountain breeze that blows through the vineyards in the Rueda region, but also from the sharp drop in nighttime temperatures, which can vary by as much as twenty degrees. The grapes retain their freshness and are harvested early in the morning at ideal ripeness. This allows the Verdejo and Viura grapes to maintain their freshness and lively acidity.

What a freshness this Peñalosa Verdejo Viura has

Upon opening the bottle, we immediately smell a vibrant aroma of citrus and white fruit, with gooseberries and lime prominently present. In the glass, this Peñalosa Verdejo Viura is a light yellow with a bright appearance. With the glass to the nose, we encounter hints of freshly mown grass, green peppers, lime, and fresh grapefruit. This fresh style continues on the palate, leaving the palate feeling refreshed. Beautiful flavors of citrus fruit and green apple. What a superb glass from the Rueda wine region!
