If you take a look at the tasting notes from our vinologists, you'll discover nothing but praise. This wine comes from the Principe de Viana winery, founded in 1983 and located in Navarra. This wine region, located in northern Spain, is becoming increasingly popular with wine lovers. Around the town of Murchante, about an hour's drive from the famous Pamplona, lie the extensive vineyards of Principe de Viana.
Tempranillo, the basis for Principe de Viana Reserva
The vineyards are nestled against Mount Moncayo, one of the highest in Spain. The presence of Moncayo contributes in part to the exceptional quality of Principe de Viana Reserva. The grapes thrive at the foot of this mountain. Furthermore, the wine is shielded from the cold and wind, which benefits the Tempranillo grapes. Tempranillo is the pride of Spain and its most famous grape variety. The grapes thrive in the warm climate and are extremely versatile. For Principe de Viana Reserva, they are aged for an impressive 14 months in both French and American oak. After bottling, Principe de Viana Reserva rests in the bottle for a further 22 months. We eagerly await the new vintage of this wine every year. However, we're not the only ones enthusiastic about Principe de Viana Reserva. Harold Hamersma, the most renowned Dutch wine journalist, also raves about this Spanish wine. In the 2019 edition of the Grote Hamersma magazine, he gave Principe de Viana Reserva a remarkable 8.5. A fantastic score that Principe de Viana is also very proud of. And as soon as you pour the wine into your glass, you'll completely agree with Mr. Hamersma. Your senses are treated to nuances of blackberry, cherry, and plum. But complex notes are also incredibly generous. On your palate, you discover vanilla, coconut, and toasted oak.
