The 2022 vintage for red wine from Sicily has received an excellent score of 90 points. The wines are of very good quality, although they may still come across as a bit youthful at the moment.

We were astonished by the beauty of this red wine, especially after hearing the price. After a thorough search, we discovered that this red wine is made by the powerhouse Monde del Vino, a well-known name in Italian viticulture. The winery is known for its fantastic, drinkable wines, of which this red Pieno Sud is one. The winery has several vineyards and wineries that share experiences and experiments with each other. As a result, the wines are exceptionally ripe and stylish, thanks in part to their modern approach. Over the years, Pieno Sud has also invested heavily, and this is clearly reflected in the quality of this red wine.

Made with local grape varieties

For the Pieno Sud vineyards, we travel to the western coast of Sicily in the Trapani region. Here, the Nero d'Avola and Shiraz grapes are planted for this premium red wine. The grapes enjoy the sun and ripen very easily, but fortunately, there's also the ocean breeze. This provides cooling during the growing process and gives the grapes a natural freshness. The vines have been here for a long time, making the soil a treasure trove of nutrients for the plants. After a balanced growing season, the bunches are harvested at night to protect them from oxidation and transport to Pieno Sud. After pressing, this Pieno Sud is aged for several months in the cellars, after which it is ready to drink.

This red PienoSud is wonderfully soft

This red wine from Terre Siciliane boasts both the softness of Nero d'Avola and a touch of spice from the Shiraz. We could certainly call it a golden duo. Upon opening the bottle, it immediately reveals a powerful aroma of black fruit. We take a large glass and are met with a cherry-red color that clings beautifully to the glass. With the nose on the rim, it offers nuances of black fruit, a touch of spice, and a hint of mint. The ripe style of the aroma continues on the palate, tantalizing the palate with soft notes of red and black fruit, accompanied by a touch of spice. The finish is silky smooth with plenty of cherry and blackberry richness.
