Vintage Report
The 2021 vintage in South Africa is considered outstanding with a score of 94 points. The wines from this year are of excellent quality but may still be youthful and tannic.
For this top-quality wine from Kleine Zalze, most of the Shiraz grapes come from their own vineyards, with a small portion coming from select plots at other Stellenbosch vineyards. This allows Kleine Zalze to express its own unique style in this Shiraz from the Vineyard Selection series.
Unique South African wines from Kleine Zalze
South African wines are generally known for their unique character. The grapes have a full and elegant character. Kleine Zalze, located in the wine-rich Stellenbosch region, is one such winery that knows how to use the perfectly ripe grapes of this region. The history of this winery dates back to 1683, when the founder began planting 7,000 vines. The beautiful climatic conditions and diverse soil qualities of the vineyards here are suitable for producing red and white wines. There's a superb wine in the selection for every wine lover. In addition to the typical South African red wines of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, Kleine Zalze also offers excellent white wines of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Chenin Blanc.21 months of wood aging for Shiraz Vineyard Selection
Each vineyard block is harvested and vinified separately. All are hand-picked and sorted. During fermentation in the Kleine Zalza cellar, the juice is regularly pumped over for optimal color and flavor extraction. After fermentation, the wine is pressed and transferred to the barrel for malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine matures for 21 months in a combination of first-, second-, and third-fill French oak barrels. This oak aging contributes to the Shiraz's distinctive character. This Shiraz smells wonderfully of red and black fruit, pepper, spices, and thanks to the oak aging, also of vanilla and oak. The palate is round and very refined, yet full and powerful. Taste notes of black fruit, vanilla, licorice, black pepper, oak, and plums! This dry Kleine Zalze Vineyard Shiraz is an excellent accompaniment to venison, lamb steak, or various cheeses.Product details
