A bit of an odd one out. While the Ponte Levatoio winery originates in central Italy, specifically in the Abruzzo region, this unique wine comes from Puglia. This wine region, located in the heel of the boot, has become increasingly popular in recent years. It now ranks among the finest Italian wines. With this red wine, Ponte Levatoio delivers an excellent Primitivo that we absolutely adore.

The wines of Ponte Levatoio

Ponte Levatoio is located in sparsely populated Abruzzo, near the small town of Maiella, in the eastern half of the region. It boasts a whopping 2,700 hectares of vineyards, making it one of the largest players in the region. However, a few years ago, it also decided to venture into Puglia, at a time when this wine region's revival was still in its early stages. A wise move today, as Ponte Levatoio's Primitivo is one of the winery's crown jewels. When you mention Primitivo, it's hard to ignore Puglia. Primitivo is Puglia, and Puglia is Primitivo. One simply can't exist without the other. The Primitivo grape thrives in Puglia's climate. Combined with the terroir and the occasional wind, this makes Primitivo wines, like this Ponte Levatoio, gentle, juicy, and incredibly sought-after.
