Vintage Report

2023 was een uitdagend maar over het algemeen goed oogstjaar in Puglia. Ondanks enkele hittegolven zorgden de omstandigheden voor rijpe en fruitige Primitivo-wijnen.
The history of CignoMoro's viticulture and wine production begins in 1921, when the grandfather of the current vineyard owner created the first bottles of his wine. Unfortunately, work on wine production was interrupted by the Second World War, forcing the vineyard to wait many years for its rediscovery. In 2001, the vineyard founder's grandson rediscovered it and decided to rekindle the family's passion for wine. Today, CignoMoro's primary goal is to combine its ancient winemaking tradition with modern production. As a result, bottles of CignoMoro wine embody tradition at its finest and are available worldwide.

Juicy wines from Cignomoro

The CignoMoro winery is located in the exceptionally sunny region of Apulia, constantly influenced by the sea breezes from the two surrounding seas. The combination of abundant sunlight, a cooling sea breeze, and vines over 100 years old, cultivated by the vineyard's original owner, produces excellent wines whose Mediterranean character is evident in every sip. Salento wines are sweet thanks to the sun's rays, which ripen the grapes, and juicy thanks to the cooling breeze.

The smell and taste of Cignomoro Pepe Nero Salento Primitivo

The wine is made from 100 percent local Primitivo grapes. It has a ruby-red color and a bouquet characteristic of the variety. The nose is dominated by aromas of forest fruits, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries, with notes of sweet cherries, dark chocolate, and hints of cedarwood. On the palate, plum jam with spices is clearly discernible, emphasized by soft tannins. A pleasant finish of chocolate and vanilla lingers after tasting. This is an excellent wine to pair with Italian homemade dishes based on pasta, meat, and cheese. It pairs well with meat lasagna or spaghetti bolognese and grilled chicken breast. The classic dark glass bottle is adorned with an interesting, modern-style label covered with shiny gold circles.
