For this beautiful red wine made from the Primitivo grape, we travel to the southern tip of Italy, Puglia to be precise. Here stands the magnificent old Callesella winery, a local icon. Callesella has helped transform the Italian wine region of Puglia, producing some of the finest wines today. This hasn't happened by chance; in recent years, the vineyards have been invigorated, and a state-of-the-art winery has been established. Callesella's wines are made using modern techniques while preserving ancient traditions.

The Primitivo bunches grow in Puglia's best climate. Abundant sunshine ensures the harvest reaches its ideal ripeness, and this, combined with the fresh ocean breeze, creates the perfect climate. The wind provides cooling during the hot summers, helping the Primitivo grapes retain their vigour. At ideal ripeness, the bunches are harvested in the morning under the guidance of the Callesella winemaker. This protects the harvest from oxidation and bruising during transport to Callesella.

The scent and taste of the Callesella Primitivo

It's truly a joy to drink, a wine with depth and fruitiness. That joy begins the moment we open the bottle, as we smell hints of black fruit, interspersed with spices and licorice. In the glass, it transforms into a beautiful purple-red, stimulating all our senses. With our noses over the glass, we smell abundant red and black fruit, with blackberries and cherries taking center stage. On the palate, the Primitivo caresses the tongue with ripe notes of blackberries and plums. A light spice and, of course, a touch of blueberry settle on the cheeks. The soft, ripe finish completes this red wine.
