Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in the Jura received an excellent score of 91 points. The wines from this vintage are early-drinking and already delightfully accessible.
This wine is made from a grape variety typical of the Jura wine region: the Poulsard grape, which is often grown on grey and blue marl. The grapes are incredibly juicy and delicate, and the thin skins leave very little tannin in the final wine. The result is a burgundy-red wine with a powerful fruit aroma.

The vineyards of the Baud winery

The ninth generation is now at the helm of the Domaine Baud family estate. There's a clear division of labor, allowing one person to focus on winemaking while the other on the vineyards themselves. The estate, located in the heart of Château-Chalon in the Jura region, dates back to 1742. In the early 19th century, phylloxera caused significant damage to the Jura vineyards. It wasn't until 1950 that René Baud rebuilt the devastated vineyards and winemaking could begin again. What began as 4 hectares has grown over the years to 24 hectares.

The vinification process of Baud En Rougemont Poulsard Cotes du Jura

The Poulsard grapes are harvested entirely by hand at peak ripeness and then taken almost immediately to the winery. Here, a traditional winemaking process follows. First, the grapes are destemmed and macerated for approximately 10 days in stainless steel tanks. The temperature is monitored daily and the caps are regularly pumped over. This ensures balanced aromas and a harmonious flavor. After the necessary rest, the wine is bottled, and it's time to enjoy the Poulsard Cotes du Jura. A powerful aroma emerges when pouring this red wine. Fruity aromas of blackcurrant and strawberry, complemented by oak, mushrooms, and straw. Juicy and delightfully light, the palate is fruity with soft tannins. An accessible wine that's delicious on its own or pairs beautifully with a snack platter.
