Vintage Report

The 2019 vintage in Saint-Julien is considered outstanding with a score of 96. The wines are currently still youthful with a powerful tannic structure that guarantees excellent aging potential.
A classic from the Medoc. Château Lagrange has been an icon in Bordeaux wines for centuries. Château Lagrange Les Fiefs de Lagrange is their biggest draw. An intense wine that's ideal for exploring Saint-Julien, one of the Medoc's most important appellations.

The Saint-Julien wine from Medoc

Saint-Julien is a beloved wine style. Nestled between Pauillac and the Haut-Médoc, it finds itself in excellent company. Saint-Julien isn't the most well-known appellation in the Médoc, but true connoisseurs know the vineyards surrounding this village are invaluable. A style, primarily focused on Cabernet Sauvignon, is instantly recognizable upon tasting a Saint-Julien. The wines of Château Lagrange are no exception. Château Lagrange has a fascinating history dating back to the late Middle Ages, making it one of the oldest wineries in the region. Château Lagrange is a merger of two estates, Pellecahus and Langrange de Monteil. One had vineyards in the east, the other in the west. With the merger of the two estates in 1631 (!), Château Lagrange was born.

As befits a fine Saint-Julien wine, the focus is primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon. In this Château Lagrange Les Fiefs De Lagrange, it also accounts for a whopping 51% of the grapes. A substantial amount of Merlot is also used. The final addition of 5% Petit Verdot gives the wine an extra dimension. The grapes are harvested by hand from late September to the first week of October. They undergo two additional inspections, purely to ensure that Château Lagrange Les Fiefs De Lagrange achieves a formidable price. After intensive vinification, the grapes are aged for 14 months, 20% of which in new oak.

Impressions of Chateau Lagrange Les Fiefs De Lagrange

This Saint-Julien is a beauty. Despite the power of the grapes in this part of Bordeaux, Château Lagrange Les Fiefs De Lagrange has a surprisingly soft palate. A friendlier palate without sacrificing character. You smell and taste violet notes, blackcurrant, red berries, and a hint of ripe strawberry. A touch of spice reveals itself on the back of the tongue: delicate spices are easily discernible. The finish is surprisingly fresh.
