Von Winning Riesling Extra Brut QbA is a serious German Sekt from the Pfalz region, made from 100% Riesling and fermented in the bottle using the traditional method. The combination of 36 months of aging on the lees, 12% alcohol, and 7.5 g/l residual sugar gives this sparkling wine its refined balance between crisp Riesling tension, creamy mousse, and elegant dryness.
This Riesling Sekt comes from the Pfalz, one of Germany's most important Riesling regions.
Location / Origin: Von Winning is based in Deidesheim, in the Pfalz. This region is known for riper, more powerful Rieslings than many cooler German regions, while the grape maintains its fresh acidity well.
Classification: The wine is a Qualitätssekt b.A., which means it is a German quality sparkling wine from a specific designated region.
Grape variety: Riesling plays the lead role at Von Winning and gives this Sekt its citric tension, fine aromatics, and refreshing structure.
The strength of this Sekt lies in the combination of stainless steel, a small proportion of wood, and long bottle aging.
Fermentation: The base wine is largely fermented in stainless steel, with a small portion in wood. Stainless steel keeps the citrus freshness and apple-like Riesling expression tight, while the wood subtly contributes extra texture.
Second fermentation: The wine undergoes its 2nd fermentation in the bottle according to the traditional method. What is the traditional method? It is the same basic process used for Champagne, where the mousse is created by fermentation within the bottle itself.
Aging: The Sekt is aged for 36 months on the lees. That long aging provides a fine, creamy mousse and more depth, without losing the fresh Riesling energy.
Residual sugar and acidity: With 7.5 g/l residual sugar and 8.9 g/l acidity, the wine remains extra brut, dry, and lively, but with enough balance to allow the acidity to elegantly align with the fruit.
This Sekt is made entirely from Riesling.
100% Riesling – Pfalz: Riesling gives this sparkling wine its lemon zest, green apple, floral notes, fresh acidity, and tight mineral finish.
