Rupert & Rothschild is a long-standing partnership between Dr. Anton Rupert, a renowned South African winemaker, and Baron Edmond de Rothschild, a member of the Rothschild dynasty. The village of Klapmuts, situated precisely between Stellenbosch and Paarl, was chosen as the location for the vineyards. French varietals were chosen for the plantings: specifically, Bordeaux varieties. With Rupert & Rothschild, the founders wanted to create high-quality South African wines made with a distinct Bordeaux style. The best of both worlds, ideally combined.
