Quinta da Bacalhôa White comes from the Bacalhôa winery, located on the Portuguese peninsula of Setúbal. In the beautiful village of Vila Nogueira de Azeitão, we find a lovely winery that is also very popular with tourists. The winery has a long history in Portuguese wines. Over the years, it has grown into one of the largest in Portugal, without losing its traditions and ancient winemaking methods. Naturally, they have modernized extensively to further improve the vinification process. In 1998, they took a major step forward when José Berardo took the helm of this beautiful winery. He invested heavily in new grape varieties and entered into a partnership with the Lafitte Rothschild Group. This is certainly reflected in the top wines from this winery, which bear the Quinta da Bacalhôa name.

This top-notch white wine is made from three beautiful grape varieties: Alvarinho, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sémillon. A golden trio for this white wine. The vineyards for this white wine are located around the winery. These are the most beautiful and oldest vineyards in Bacalhôa. The soil is sandy and calcareous, and the vines are very deeply rooted. This, combined with the wonderfully warm daytime temperatures and the cooling sea breeze, ensures a carefree growing season. When the three varieties are perfectly ripe at the end of the growing season (which, incidentally, varies for each grape variety), the harvest begins. In the very early morning, the Bacalhôa winemaker signals the start of the harvest. Each bunch is hand-picked, allowing for a rigorous selection of the fruit. Only the best grapes are good enough for this exceptional white wine. After pressing, the different grape varieties are also vinified separately in stainless steel tanks. Nearly 20% of the Semillon is also aged in French oak with four months of battonage. This further softens the wine and adds complexity.
