We were amazed by the quality of this Italian red, because surely that's unthinkable at this price? Well, it's not a fairy tale or a tall tale, because this red Nerone wine is a true fusion of Italian temperament. It all begins in the old vineyards in the heart of Puglia, where the Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes are planted. The rich soil structure features many different layers, allowing the vines to easily absorb moisture. This is necessary, as the long summers can get very hot there. But fortunately, the wind from the sea blows through the vineyards, helping to cool the bunches, resulting in a long and balanced growing season.

The harvest of the Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes

Once the grapes have reached full ripeness, they are transported to Nerone in the early morning. Harvesting begins early to preserve the freshness of the grapes and prevent oxidation during transport. The Nerone vineyards are situated on level ground, facing the sun. To ensure robustness in the wine, the grapes also receive sufficient cooling from the sea breeze, which is crucial in Puglia.
