The Santa Tresa estate dates back to 1697 and was purchased in 2002 by Stefano Girelle and his sister, Marina. Since the purchase, the estate has been fully restored and operates organically and sustainably. Located in Vittoria, the estate owns 40 hectares of vineyards. Rina Lanca means "white sand" in Sicilian dialect, a reference to the coastline and the light, sandy soils where the grapes for this wine are grown today.
Only the very best Nero d'Avola grapes are selected for this Miopasso. The grapes are harvested by hand in late September and early October to ensure the acidity is retained. The grapes are transported in small crates and gently destemmed in the winery. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius. It is made using the appasimento method, in which part of the wine is made from sun-dried grapes. This makes it somewhat softer and more concentrated than many other wines made from this grape variety.
The aroma is explosive and immediately leaves you wanting more. The dark red fruit is complemented by black pepper and a touch of spice. The palate is beautifully concentrated, a smooth flavor with a lovely complexity. It's perfectly balanced, with sweetness alternating with a delicate acidity. It finishes with a long, smooth finish.
