The Maison Brotte Château de Bord Côtes du Rhône Villages Laudun Blanc 2023 is a serious white Rhône for those who appreciate ripe white fruit, floral finesse, and a wine with significantly more status than a regular Côtes du Rhône Blanc. The château character, the designated village appellation, and the targeted barrel aging of a portion of the cuvée immediately give this wine extra allure. This is also reflected in its origin. What does Côtes du Rhône Villages Laudun mean? It is a named villages appellation within Côtes du Rhône, intended for wines from a clearly defined terroir with its own profile.
Vineyards and Region
The power of this wine begins in Laudun, in the southern part of the Rhône Valley.
- Location / Origin: Château de Bord is located in Laudun, within the Côtes du Rhône Villages Laudun appellation in the southern Rhône. Within the broader Rhône Valley, this is a named origin that can emphatically rely on its own terroir and identity.
- Vineyard: The estate encompasses 22 hectares of vineyards around the remains of a medieval château. This historical context gives this cuvée extra stature within the Brotte assortment.
- Soil: The vineyards are located on terraces with sandy, well-drained soils. This gives the wine its combination of concentration, roundness, and refinement.
- Climate & Influences: The climate is Mediterranean, with a clear influence from the Mistral wind. This wind helps keep the grapes healthy and supports a ripe, pure style.
- Exposure: The terraces are ideally oriented to the southeast. This allows the grapes to fully benefit from the sun, while the wine still retains its tension.
Vinification and Aging
In the cellar, Brotte opts for an approach that precisely combines breadth and freshness.
- Harvest & Selection: The grapes are harvested by hand, early in the morning and at perfect ripeness. This helps to preserve maximum freshness and aromatic precision.
- Fermentation: After 36 hours of cold settling at 10–12 °C, 35% of the juice ferments slowly for 2 weeks in new French oak barrels. This choice adds extra texture and aromatic layering to the wine.
- Aging / Barrel Aging: The portion fermented in wood then ages for several months on its lees with regular bâtonnage. The rest of the cuvée ages on fine lees in stainless steel, after which the blend is lightly filtered and rests for another month in the bottle. This creates a wine with roundness, tension, and a beautifully integrated oak influence.
Grape Composition
The blend combines aromatic richness with freshness and structure, exactly as you would want to see in a serious white Laudun.
- 70% Viognier – Laudun: Viognier forms the core of this wine and gives it its full aromatic expression, round entry, and ripe fruit notes.
- 15% Clairette – Laudun: Clairette brings refinement and helps the wine maintain its fresh profile.
- 15% Grenache Blanc – Laudun: Grenache Blanc adds extra breadth and supports the soft, layered mouthfeel of the cuvée.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
Light yellow in the glass, with notes of citrus, white flowers, peach, and a fine hint of fresh almond on the nose. On the palate, you taste a fresh, well-structured white Rhône with white orchard fruit, a subtle salinity, and lively acidity that provides precision and length. The finish remains balanced, pure, and particularly appealing at the table.
- Serving Temperature: 13 °C works best here, as this temperature allows both the floral finesse and the fresh tension and creamy texture to express themselves well.
- Dishes: White meats, summer salads, and seafood pair exceptionally well with this wine.
Awards

More information about Château de Bord
Château de Bord dates back to Roman times and later belonged to the bishops of Uzès and then to the Count of Toulouse. After the French Revolution, the estate was abandoned until the Brotte family acquired it in 1991 and developed it into an important address in Laudun. This combination of historical depth and family drive gives this wine an extra convincing background.
