A beautiful white blend that perfectly showcases what the Douro region has to offer. The grapes Esporao uses are typical of this region: Codega, Gouveio, Rabigato, Verdello, and Viosinho. These grapes complement each other sublimely, creating a refreshing wine.

Manual harvest for Esporao Murças Assobio White

The Esporao winery has a remarkably long history, dating back to 1267. In 1973, the estate was purchased by Jose Roquette to fulfill his winemaking dream: creating vineyards in the mineral-rich, volcanic soils of southeastern Portugal. Esporao's vineyards are located in the Alentejo region, where warm days alternate with cool nights. The alternation of warm summers and cold winters produces original wines, allowing the grapes to ripen optimally. Esporão operates sustainably with exceptional respect for nature. The vineyards are tended with great expertise and passion, with quality as the top priority. Assobio literally means "whistle" and refers to the wind that blows through the vineyards, creating a whistling sound. The wine is named after this, as a kind of tribute to the Portuguese vineyards of Esporão. The vineyards have a soil composed of slate and granite. The vines are 15 to 20 years old and are capable of extracting the necessary nutrients from the soil. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and brought to the winery. Here, the grapes are destemmed and then pressed. A cold maceration follows, after which one-fifth of the grapes are aged for six months in oak barrels.

The delicious fruity notes of Esporao Murças Assobio White

But the wait is rewarded with a beautiful, fresh white wine. The aroma reveals notes of dark fruit, such as blackcurrant, plum, and cassis. These fruity notes are complemented by vanilla and oak notes. The palate clearly reveals the fruity notes. The mouthfeel is smooth and sultry with a long, pleasant finish. Ideal to enjoy on its own or paired with hearty pasta or stew.
