Domaine Pujol Malbec 2023 Pays d’Oc IGP, France
Domaine Pujol Malbec 2023 comes from the line in which the winery recognisably and directly presents grape varieties from Pays d'Oc IGP. Malbec is more commonly associated with Southwest France or Argentina, but in the Languedoc, this grape achieves a remarkably juicy, spicy, and fresh style. The 3 weeks of maceration provide color, grip, and depth, while the wine retains its smooth character and lively drinkability.
Vineyards and region
This Malbec comes from Pays d'Oc IGP, in Southern France.
Location / Origin: Pays d'Oc IGP gives Domaine Pujol the opportunity to produce Malbec as a single varietal within the warm, Mediterranean context of the Languedoc.
Vineyard position: The Malbec is planted at the bottom of the slope, where the grapes can achieve sufficient ripeness for a round, fruit-rich style.
Soil: The soil consists of sandstone marl and red clay. This combination helps the vine with structure, water reserves, and ripe fruit with a spicy undertone.
Vineyard & Harvest: Malbec can produce erratically, making good vineyard control important to obtain round, healthy grapes.
Vinification and aging
The vinification is classic and focused on fruit, color, and a supple tannin structure.
Fermentation: The wine is traditionally fermented, ensuring that the fruit expression of Malbec remains clearly recognisable.
Maceration: The wine undergoes 3 weeks of maceration. What is maceration? It is the period during which juice and skins remain in contact, so that color, tannins, and aromas are extracted from the grape skins.
Grape composition
This red wine is made entirely from Malbec.
100% Malbec – Pays d’Oc IGP: Malbec gives this wine its dark color, spicy fruit expression, floral note, and firm yet round structure. In this South French rendition, the grape remains juicy, fresh, and surprisingly approachable.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Dark purple in the glass, with notes of blackberry, raspberry, liquorice, violets, and a hint of spice. The taste is juicy and well-structured, with fresh tension, round tannins, and a supple fruit core. The finish remains lively, with a subtle bittersweet accent.
Serving temperature: Serve this Malbec at 16–18 °C, so that the dark fruit, spiciness, and round tannins come together beautifully.
Dishes: Delicious with roast veal, roasted quail, duck with plums, spicy tagine, and soft cheeses.
