Vintage Report

De jaargang 2023 voor witte wijnen uit de Loire heeft een uitstekende Robert Parker score van 95 punten gekregen. Dit wijst op een buitengewoon goed jaar met een zeer hoge kwaliteit voor deze regio.

The grapes for this Comte Lafond Sancerre Blanc Grande Cuvée thrive on steep slopes surrounding the renowned villages of Chavignol, Bué, Maimbray, Amigny, Verdigny, and Sancerre itself. The vines are at least 40 years old. The family cultivates only vineyards facing south or southwest. Fermentation on the lees further enhances the pure and elegant character. Juicy and elegant, the wine is vibrant with aromas of gooseberry and citrus. The wine is perfectly balanced with fresh acidity and slightly more complex aromas.

The rich history of Comte Lafond

Since the end of the 18th century, the Comtes Lafond family has owned several wine estates in regions including Pouilly Fumé, Sancerre, Chablis, Burgundy, and even Champagne and Cognac. Comte Lafond is the ancestor of Baron Patrick de Ladoucette. Comte Lafond was the first in the family to have a strong ambition to expand his wine production. As the great-grandson of the Counts of Lafond, Baron Patrick de Ladoucette continued this tradition of exceptional quality. He then extended his expertise to the Sancerre vineyards, carrying on the Comte Lafond name for his great Sancerre vintages in exceptional 18th-century bottles reminiscent of his ancestor's. The grapes come from different vineyards. They are all vinified separately and then blended together. No machinery or pumps are used during harvesting or vinification. The estate is entirely gravity-fed. The wine matures for eight months sur lie, which gives this Comte Lafond Sancerre Blanc Grande Cuvee a unique character.

What does the Comte Lafond Sancerre Blanc Grande Cuvée taste like?

The Comte Lafond Sancerre Blanc Grande Cuvée is a brilliant golden yellow in color. It has a complex, refined aroma of gooseberry, green apple, citrus, and a floral note. Mineral and richly nuanced in flavor, it offers a beautiful tension between delicate fruit acidity and complex aromas, followed by a lovely length and balance.
