Château d’Astros Absolu Rosé 2024 Côtes de Provence, France
Château d’Astros Absolu Rosé 2024 is Château d’Astros' most refined rosé cuvée, crafted from Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault from Provence. This organic Côtes de Provence rosé is all about finesse, tension, and gastronomic depth, featuring fresh citrus fruit, exotic nuances, and a long, elegant finish.
Vineyards and Region
Château d’Astros is located in the Var, in the heart of Provence.
Location / Origin: The wine comes from AOP Côtes de Provence, the appellation renowned worldwide for dry, elegant rosé with a light color, fresh acidity, and Mediterranean fruit expression.
Vineyard Area: The estate is situated within a 600-hectare nature reserve, of which 80 hectares are planted with vines. This combination of vineyard and nature aligns with Château d’Astros' organic farming practices.
Soil: Absolu comes from selected plots with calcareous and dry soils. Limestone contributes to tension and minerality, while the dry soil helps the vine produce concentrated fruit.
Climate & Influences: The 2024 vintage had a challenging start with spring frosts, followed by a milder summer without extreme heat or prolonged drought. This allowed the grapes to ripen healthily with great aromatic precision.
Vineyard & Harvest: The harvest ran from August 22nd to September 28th. Due to low yields, harvesting was exceptionally meticulous, sometimes in multiple passes to achieve the correct ripeness per plot.
Vinification and Aging
Absolu Rosé is crafted as a gastronomic Provence rosé, with an emphasis on finesse, texture, and aromatic clarity.
Harvest & Selection: For this cuvée, the most expressive plots are selected. This gives the wine its deeper structure and more pronounced gastronomic character.
Fermentation: The 2024 rosés were vinified with precise temperature control. This cool, controlled method helps preserve the delicate aromas, fresh tension, and light color characteristic of the Provence style.
Aging: The wine is made with a focus on purity and balance. As a result, the fruit remains bright, while the palate gains more breadth and refinement than a simple terrace rosé.
Grape Composition
The blend combines Provençal roundness, structure, and fresh elegance.
Grenache – Côtes de Provence: Grenache gives this rosé its soft fruit, round entry, and Mediterranean suppleness.
Mourvèdre – Côtes de Provence: Mourvèdre brings structure, spice, and extra depth to the blend.
Cinsault – Côtes de Provence: Cinsault provides lightness, freshness, and refined red fruit expression.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
Light pink in the glass, with a refined aroma of fresh fruit, citrus, exotic fruit, and subtle spice. The palate opens with a silky smoothness, then gains volume, tension, and aromatic complexity. The finish is fresh, long, and beautifully balanced.
Serving Temperature: Serve at 8–10 °C, to preserve the crisp citrus, exotic fruit notes, and refined structure.
Dishes: Excellent with shellfish, grilled prawns, ceviche, goat cheese tartlets, white meat, Provençal chicken, or refined dishes with Mediterranean herbs.
