Champagne Boizel La Montagne Blanc de Noirs Premier Cru
Champagne Boizel La Montagne Blanc de Noirs Premier Cru is a characterful Champagne from Épernay, made entirely from Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims. This cuvée showcases the powerful, ripe and refined side of Pinot Noir in Champagne, with grapes from top villages such as Cumières, Mailly and Chigny-les-Roses. Thanks to 3 years of aging on the lees, 20% reserve wines, and a dosage of 6 g/l, La Montagne achieves depth, creaminess, and a fresh, fruit-driven finish.
Vineyards and region
La Montagne refers to the Montagne de Reims, an important area within Champagne for Pinot Noir.
• Location / Origin: The Pinot Noir comes from Grands Crus and Premiers Crus in the Montagne de Reims. This origin is known for Champagnes with structure, ripe fruit, and a full, gastronomic style.
• Key villages: For this cuvée, Boizel uses Pinot Noir from, among others, Cumières, Mailly, and Chigny-les-Roses. These villages give La Montagne its combination of power, finesse, and ripe fruit expression.
• Champagne style: Blanc de Noirs made from Pinot Noir often has more body and vinosity than a Chardonnay-dominated Champagne. In La Montagne, this power remains refined due to the fresh mousse and the precise Boizel style.
Grape composition
Champagne Boizel La Montagne Blanc de Noirs Premier Cru is made entirely from Pinot Noir.
• 100% Pinot Noir – Montagne de Reims: What is Blanc de Noirs? Blanc de Noirs is white Champagne made from black grapes, where the skins must not impart color to the juice. Pinot Noir here provides structure, ripe fruit, depth, and a silky texture.
Vinification and aging
For La Montagne, vinification focuses on keeping the juice white and enhancing the natural power of Pinot Noir.
• Harvest & Selection: During harvest, extra care is taken to ensure that the skins of the Pinot Noir grapes do not color the juice. This keeps this Blanc de Noirs crystal clear, despite the use of black grapes.
• Reserve wines: The cuvée contains 20% reserve wines. These add extra roundness, continuity, and depth to the blend.
• Aging: The Champagne ages for 3 years on its lees. This aging on fine yeast cells provides a creamier mousse, more texture, and subtle notes of brioche and pastry.
• Dosage: With a dosage of 6 g/l, La Montagne remains dry and fresh, while retaining enough roundness to beautifully support the ripe Pinot Noir fruit.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
In the glass, La Montagne has an intense clear golden color with slight amber reflections and fine, creamy bubbles. The aroma is rich and warm, with ripe pear, red fruit, apricot, and brioche. The taste is full-bodied and surprisingly fresh, with a silky texture, notes of fruit, pastry, and honey, and a fruit-driven finish.
• Serving temperature: Serve this Blanc de Noirs at 8–10 °C, so that the fine mousse, ripe fruit, and fresh finish remain beautifully balanced.
• Dishes: Wonderful as an aperitif and excellent at the table with poultry with wild mushrooms, veal chop with morels, cured ham, charcuterie, and refined dishes with creamy sauces.
Accolades
• 4.2 stars, Vivino: A strong user rating for this Blanc de Noirs Premier Cru from Boizel, in which Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims achieves a full and refined Champagne style.
