Vintage Report

2007 was a challenging but ultimately successful vintage for Champagne, scoring approximately 90-92 points from Robert Parker. Despite a cool and wet summer, a warm September led to a harvest with remarkable freshness, tension, and excellent aging potential, especially for Blanc de Blancs.

Champagne Boizel Joyau de France Chardonnay 2007

Champagne Boizel Joyau de France Chardonnay 2007 is a rare Blanc de Blancs from Champagne Boizel's prestigious Joyau range. This cuvée is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes sourced from 4 famous crus in the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, and Vertus. Ten years of aging on the lees and a low dosage of 5 g/l give this Champagne an impressive combination of ripeness, chalky tension, brioche, and fresh minerality.

Vineyards and region

Joyau de France Chardonnay comes from the Côte des Blancs, the most famous area in Champagne for great Chardonnay.

Location / Origin: The Chardonnay comes from Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, and Vertus. These villages are known for Champagnes with tension, finesse, and a clear mineral line.

Selection: For this prestige cuvée, only juice from the first pressing is used. This is the most refined part of the pressing and forms the basis for a Champagne with precision and aging potential.

Champagne style: Joyau de France Chardonnay is a Blanc de Blancs, made entirely from Chardonnay. Within the Joyau range, this wine primarily showcases Boizel's elegant, mineral, and long-aging side.

Grape composition

This Champagne is made from 1 grape variety.

100% Chardonnay – Côte des Blancs: Chardonnay gives this Champagne its floral aromas, citrus, almond, refined acidity, and chalky minerality. In the Côte des Blancs, the grape gains extra tension and length, allowing this cuvée to develop for a long time.

Vinification and aging

The vinification focuses on purity, long aging, and maximum expression of Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs.

Pressing: Only the first pressing is used for this cuvée. This ensures a refined, precise base with great clarity in aroma and taste.

Aging: The Champagne ages for 10 years on the lees in Boizel's cellars. What is aging on the lees? It is aging on fine yeast cells, which refines the mousse and gives the wine more depth, texture, and notes of brioche and toasted hazelnut.

Dosage: With a dosage of 5 g/l, the style remains dry and crisp, while retaining enough roundness to beautifully carry the ripe Chardonnay and long cellar aging.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

In the glass, this Champagne is clear pale gold with a slight green shimmer and very fine bubbles. The aroma opens refined with hawthorn, almond, grapefruit, and lemon peel, followed by patisserie, brioche, and toasted hazelnut. The taste is dense, broad, and fresh, with almost saline minerality and a long, crisp finish.

Serving temperature: Serve this Blanc de Blancs at 10–12 °C, so that the fine mousse, citrus, almond, and mineral length come together beautifully.

Pairings: Excellent with seared scallops, turbot with fennel, Arctic char with fine vegetables, seafood, and roasted Bresse chicken with herbs.

Awards

94/100, Wine Enthusiast: Cellar Selection, praised for its ripe texture, mineral core, and balance that showcases the longevity of Chardonnay in Champagne.

94/100, James Suckling: A strong rating for this Blanc de Blancs, with appreciation for dried lemon, apple, brioche, freshness, focus, and a clear finish.

4.3 stars, Vivino: A very strong user score for this rare Chardonnay Champagne from Boizel's Joyau range.
