Vintage Report

2024 is a very young vintage for Alto Adige. Although a detailed report is not yet available, the wines are expected to be fresh and vibrant, ideal for early consumption.

Our Review

A bit Chenin-like. Has some apple notes. Also a lot of body for something unoaked. Good acidity, which then reminds you of Chablis. Really a nice glass.

Castelfeder Doss Chardonnay Alto Adige DOC, Italy

Castelfeder Doss Chardonnay is a full-bodied, fresh Chardonnay from Alto Adige, originating from the Bassa Atesina in South Tyrol. The name Doss refers to a small hill near Cortina sulla Strada del Vino, a special area that was regularly flooded in the past and was therefore also called "Little Venice". The wine combines ripe yellow fruit, fresh acidity, creaminess and elegant spice.

Vineyards and region

Doss Chardonnay comes from Alto Adige, a mountainous wine region in northern Italy.

Location / Origin: The grapes come from selected vineyards in the Bassa Atesina, the southern part of Alto Adige. Here, Mediterranean ripeness and alpine freshness beautifully come together.

Vineyard: Doss refers to a small hill near Cortina sulla Strada del Vino. This hill originated in an area that was regularly flooded in the past and is now important for Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio.

Soil: The vineyards are located on sandy, calcareous gravel soils. This soil gives the wine freshness, structure and a pure fruit expression.

Climate & Influences: Alto Adige has plenty of sunshine, cool nights and large temperature differences between day and night. This gives Chardonnay ripe fruit, while the wine also remains fresh and precise.

Vinification and aging

The vinification aims for a fresh Chardonnay with body, creaminess and elegance.

Harvest & Pressing: The grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed. This keeps the juice clean and preserves the fresh fruit aromas well.

Fermentation: Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. This keeps the wine clear, fruity and pure in style.

Aging: The wine ages for 6 months on its fine lees. This provides extra creaminess, softness and length, without the wine losing its fresh character.

Alcohol percentage: With 13.5% alcohol, this Chardonnay has sufficient body for the table, while the fresh acidity ensures balance.

Grape composition

This wine is made from Chardonnay from Alto Adige.

Chardonnay – Alto Adige: Chardonnay gives Doss its ripe fruit, soft creaminess and full mouthfeel. In the cool climate of Alto Adige, the grape also retains fresh acidity and elegant tension.

Tasting notes and serving tips

Delicate straw yellow with green reflections in the glass, with aromas of apricot, stone fruit, apple, pear, banana, rosemary and thyme. The taste is soft and creamy, with fresh acidity, juicy yellow fruit and a long, elegant finish. A gastronomic Chardonnay that beautifully combines freshness and roundness.

Serving temperature: Serve at 9–11 °C, so that the creamy structure, ripe fruit and spicy notes come into their own.

Dishes: Excellent with creamy pasta with chicken, grilled fish, refined Asian dishes, lightly spiced Thai dishes, risotto with vegetables, quiche or soft cheeses.
